Air India SATS has commenced domestic cargo handling at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur, aiming to strengthen India's air freight infrastructure and position the city as a key logistics hub, reports Mumbai's Good Return.
AISATS, a joint venture between Air India and Singapore's SATS, will deliver international-standard cargo services. The move aligns with projections that India's air freight market will reach US$17.22 billion by 2028, growing at 5.65 per cent annually.
Raipur's central location makes it ideal for regional cargo movement. The airport handled 5,079 tonnes of freight in FY 2024-25, a 2.3 per cent rise. AISATS plans to use real-time tracking, workforce planning and digitised documentation to improve efficiency.
The facility will manage diverse cargo types including pharmaceuticals, perishables, high-value goods and industrial machinery. This will offer Chhattisgarh's industries faster access to national and international trade routes.
AISATS CEO Ramanathan Rajamani said Raipur's strategic location offers immense potential to become a regional cargo gateway. The firm's 15 years of experience in air cargo management will help deliver globally benchmarked logistics solutions.
The new operations are part of AISATS' broader strategy to meet rising demand for efficient cargo services through advanced technology and improved connectivity.
