PSA Antwerp and Europe's largest private rail freight operator, Lineas, have started a thrice weekly direct train services between the PSA Terminal in Zeebrugge and the PSA North Sea Terminal in Antwerp on June 2.

Lineas is responsible for the entire operation of the train, according to a company release.

After arriving in Antwerp, the train also stops at the Lineas MainHub for further distribution within Belgium and to the European hinterland.

Lineas and PSA ensure maximum use of the train by collecting empty containers and consolidating export cargo here.

"This new rail link will transport 26,000 TEU between Zeebrugge and Antwerp per year," said Edward Tah, managing director, PSA Belgium.

The service is designed as an open product: all logistics players can use this rail link to optimise their cargo flows. The new rail link supplements existing transport options, such as estuary shipping, between Zeebrugge and Antwerp.
