NINGBO Ocean Shipping Co (NBOSCO) has announced plans to expand its fleet by adding four newbuild container vessels, reports Singapore's Splash 247.

The Shanghai-listed subsidiary of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port Group has earmarked up to US$192 million to construct four 2,700-TEU ships.

The shipyard has yet to be selected and will be chosen through a competitive bidding process.

According to Alphaliner, NBOSCO currently ranks 24th among the world's top container carriers, with a fleet of 85 vessels and 11 more on order.

The company's last newbuilding orders came in May 2024, when it signed contracts for two all-electric 740-TEU feeders at Jiangsu Haitong. That followed a July 2023 order for 1,058-TEU ships at Taizhou Jianxing Shipyard.

The announcement comes shortly after the departure of chairman Zongquan Xu, who stepped down in April.
